The European Union (EU) has evolved significantly since the signing of the two treaties that created the European Economic Community (EEC) and the Europe an Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) in 1957. To date, the political and economic stability offered by the EU has attracted 27 Member States comprising almost half a billion citizens and positions the EU as the third largest economy in the world.

All over the world, the EU works to prevent and resolve conflicts, to support resilient democracies, to promote human rights and sustainable development, to fight climate change and to contribute to a rules-based global order.
